Apple's iPhone can be unlocked for use with Sprint?
And if this can be done, it is difficult to do?
No. iPhone uses a mobile phone communications standard called GSM, which is used by AT & T and T-Mobile in the U.S. (and a number of other carriers worldwide). Sprint uses a standard called CDMA. Unlocking an iPhone allows you to make a number of things, including installing any program you like and use it in other GSM operators around the world, but change from CDMA to GSM would require a very serious change in hardware (as well as modifications to the software / firmware to make use of hardware changes).
