Unlock my LG Chocolate To Put Ringtones On It?

So I have one of the latest LG chocolate, with the touch buttons on the front. It has 128MB of internal memory to store MP3 and ringtones and whatnot. Now I know I can download ringtones from the web, but it costs a fortune! When I plug it to my computer since the software will upload the mp3 you want for it, but I know it must be a way to upload ringtones, even if its supposed to. Perhaps, if there is any way to access my phone from a Linux distro that I could search the entire phone? Who knows any idea?

I do not know about Linux, but you can download a program called Bitpim. It allows you to change something in CDMA phones. I do not know if the program was updated to support the new Chocolate (LG VX8550) or not yet, but has the ability to let you make your own ringtones. You only need a USB cable to the phone.
