Ebook readers are becoming available from a number of manufacturers and in various formats for the PC, mobile phones and PDA systems. Two readers ebook most popular are Amazon's Kindle and Sony's failure, although the competition is heating up, mainly because of the Amazon to dominate your niche, by not provide the Kindle in the UK and in Europe until sales began on 19 October 2009. There are serious competition for all those on the horizon, however. Mobile devices are increasingly being used as eReaders. The iPhone is not the only cell phone from which eBooks can be read, however, and you can use any smart phone, or even a PDA to read books. BlackBerry can be used with mobile format and eReader Mobipocket for Symbian Smartphones is a free download, compatible with various models of Nokia and some Sony-Ericsson models. EReader Windows Mobile is available free for Windows Mobile Smartphones and your PocketPC, and the same is true for the eReader Palm OS. So Smart Phone Palm and computer users have the option of eReaders free, and they are perfectly usable. They are obviously inadequate for the serious car reading, but are perfect for travel, and for use in planes, trains and (as a passenger, of course!).
If you own a netbook for small and light, you can also use this as a ebook reader – indeed, they are becoming so small that they can soon be competing for serious eReaders as currently offered by Kindle or Sony. A small fully functional and featured computer that doubles as an ebook reader definitely could seriously harm the dedicated products, assuming that users also had a requirement for small notebooks.
In conclusion, Kindle is still the top dog of the range of resources, if it looks like Sony is not far away because of its price. What is becoming clear is that cell phones are a good enough size for the reader some PCs (because they cost nothing), and the size increasing reduction of 'laptop' is to make these serious competitor to eReaders dedicated.
