Blackberry Storm vs iPhone 3G: Will Blackberry Rim to be iPhone Killer?

Recently I had published a side-by-side comparison of the iPhone 3G and T-Mobile G1 DVD converter which evoked an interesting debate. (from iphonehacks)

Here comes the other side by side comparison of Apple's 3G iPhone with RIM's BlackBerry Storm, which is considered as another iPhone Killer.

BlackBerry Storm is expected to be released some time in November exclusively by Verizon in the U.S. and Vodafone in the UK.

Hardware Spec
Size:
Storm = 4.4 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches
iPhone 3G = 5.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches
Weight:
Storm = 155g
iPhone = 133g
Screen Size:
Storm = 3.2 inches
iPhone = 3.5 inches
Camera:
Storm = 3.2M pixel
iPhone = 2M pixel
Memory:
Storm = 1GB on board + 16GB expandable with MicroSD
iPhone = 8GB / 16GB (no expansion)
Battery:
Storm = 5.5hrs talk time / 360 hours standby
iPhone = 5 hours talk time / 300 hours standby

Unlike the T-Mobile G1 that we have mentioned before, BlackBerry Storm "steals" the design and looks a lot like the iPhone 3G. However it does not look as elegant as the iPhone 3G. It is a bit thicker (0.14inches more) and heavy (22g more) than the iPhone 3G. And, surprisingly, BlackBerry Storm does comes with Wi-Fi support or they probably Verizon's 3G network is good enough.

Screen BlackBerry Storm is also a little smaller (3.2 inches) for iPhone 3G (3.5), however, it boasts a slightly higher resolution (460×360 pixels) iPhone 3G (460×360 pixels).

Winner: iPhone 3G

Input Method

With the success of the iPhone's multi-touch interface, touch is now the standard for any new smartphone. Like the iPhone, the storm did have physical slide-out keyboard and uses the screen as input, in fact its RIM's first smartphone to feature a touch screen. However, RIM points out that the touch technology developed about the storm is a little different from other touch screen smartphone available. RIM refers its touch technology as "Clickable Screen". This means that when users press the button on the screen, which can really feel the key pressed and release, as you press the mouse button. They call it a game-changing technology touch-screen keyboard is more appealing.

Moreover, as T-Mobile G1, which will be built to cut and paste between applications ability of a resource missing from iPhone 3G.

Winner: Its difficult to call a winner in this, until we get feedback from users on RIM's touch technology. We love the revolutionary iPhone 3G multi-touch interface.

Multimedia
Multimedia support is not the strong area of RIM smartphones, targeting mainly users business. Storm is designed to support multiple in mind to attract more casual users. Standard feature like music and video playback included. A wide range of audio formats (including MP3, AAC, WMA, etc.) and video format (including MPEG4, WMV, etc.). The storm also allows sync iTunes music files via BlackBerry Media Sync and has its own media software to manage your music.

iPhone 3G Apple iPod is the best ever created. The music and video playback experience is awesome. And, Apple continues to update features such as Genius playlist on the iPhone makes iPhone multimedia support nearly unbeatable. With its seamless integration with the iTunes Store, you can download music wirelessly or sync it between desktops using the iTunes. The iPhone 3G also supports a wide range of music formats but only plays Quick Time video.

Winner: iPhone 3G

Camera & Video Recording

Apple does not upgrade the camera in the iPhone 3G, its still a 2-megapixel camera base, while the storm comes with
3.2 megapixel camera and includes built-in video recording. The storm also includes a flash and auto focus for your camera.

Winner: BlackBerry Storm

Modem Capability
iPhone 3G does not support tethering and Apple tends to ban any applications in App Store that adds this capability. The only option you have is to jailbreak the iPhone and use jailbreak apps like PdaNet, BlackBerry Storm iPhoneModem etc., in the hands others, comes with built-in tie.

Feature Company

Apple has done quite a few steps to take market share from RIM in the business. iPhone 3G, with built-in support for Microsoft ActiveSync protocol, services allows business users to access Microsoft Exchange. Moreover, it takes a big step forward to support Cisco IPsec VPN, which is a standard in business wireless security. It incorporates a feature to let administrator to remotely erase data in case the iPhone is lost or stolen.

RIM is always the leader in wireless devices. Storm, in any way, continues to lead in this area. The support of the company is noticeable that the different security policies can be defined as the administrator can enable or shut down specific Bluetooth profiles and even, to disable access to your digital camera.

Winner: BlackBerry Storm

To summarize, BlackBerry a balance between business and the use of causality. It is by far the sleekest BlackBerry, RIM, which should help attract customers link.

It's another iPhone killer? Its hard to finish. iPhone 3G and BlackBerry both come with some unique features not have and are positioned differently in the market.
However, I still do not understand the omission of Wi-Fi in BlackBerry Storm, its true that BlackBerry is geared to business users who use it primarily for email, but still seems a big disadvantage on the iPhone 3G.

As a consumer device, the iPhone will definitely win thanks to the iPod application, its Safari browser, which is easily the most advanced web browser on a portable device that makes web browsing on the iPhone and a comprehensive treatment for their cool factor. But if you call some business-savvy users and enterprise, BlackBerry is still that choice.

RIM also did not disclose the price or the date of dispatch officer.

You can check the demo video of the BlackBerry Storm to get an overview:

BlackBerry Storm, T-Mobile G1 and soon to be released Nokia XpressMusic (Nokia, first phone with touch screen) can or may not end up being the iPhone killer, but competition is healthy for the Apple iPhone 3G will ensure that Apple is constantly innovating in the end that is beneficial consumers like us.

Let us know which one is a winner from your point of view and why?
