Buy to unlock Palm Pre Verizon?

Ok I'm due for a new phone and I'm tired of playing nice with Verizon. I want to get pre because the future of the iPhone coming to Verizon is a shot from long distance. I also have a very certain idea that Verizon will block everything out as they did with the HTC Touch. So I'm wondering is it worth buying now for the Pre total price and have fun? I just want a CDMA phone that can have good Facebook / MySpace YouTube.

I do not think that CDMA phones can be unlocked to work on other networks. They are locked to their carriers and their work differently than the GSM phones with SIM card compatible. Only GSM (AT & T, T-Mobile, etc) phones can be unlocked to work on other networks and anyway, all the resources may not be available (GSM various different bandwidths to use the 3G service, for example). There should be a version GSM Pre out in the next 6 to 9 months (once a Sprint 6 months exclusive contract expires). The heads of AT & T and Palm have indicated that this is the case. Then, if you really want a prerequisite, your best bet is to switch to Sprint and now or wait for the GSM version and switch to a GSM operator to use it. (And forget the iPhone call quality sucks and you will be able to do better … particularly since many great new phones and operating systems of quality are being released now. The other companies are actually increasing competition and iPhone / Apple will shoot themselves in the foot with its non-replacement cells or not expandable memory / Crappy cameras / etc.) Otherwise, there are many other nice phones out there that you can try. I've been researching them myself lately because I need a new phone as well. CNET.com has some amazing reviews on cell phones and you can browse them by your preferred carrier. Good luck!
