what format do DVD read?

i want to burn a DVD but i don’t know what format file is that that DVD read??? i have a converter program that will allow me to convert any video file into what i want for example

in this case i have an input format as WMV but i don’t know whats the output format to burn the files and watch in any DVD player??? help!!!!
