Mobile phone technologies called GPRS and 3G are bringing the most powerful in the world Internet population. Where is the impact of these technologies are felt such as Nigeria, India and China. The case of Nigeria is indeed remarkable. Only 6 years ago, Nigeria had less than 400 000 fixed lines for a population about 130 million euros.

But with the coming of the main GSM, MTN, Zain, Glo and others, the number of subscribers exploded to more than 50 million euros. Currently, there is an increasing demand in mobile Internet access, which has been made possible by access to different packet data technologies like GPRS, 3G and HSPDA.

The most surprising now is that the cost of access has also decreased dramatically. This means that in countries like Nigeria, where about 8 years of democracy, led to the emergence of a new middle class, anyone with a PC or laptop with an appropriate mobile phone can now chat, browse sites, e-mail verification stocks trade, and take classes online, even in remote rural areas.

What are the requirements to access the Internet using wireless phones?

Step 1
You must have a phone that supports data access packages. Manufacturers of mobile phones like Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung offer a wide range of phones vary in sophistication and cost.

Step 2
You must have packet data enabled on your cellular network. In Nigeria, MTN, Glo and Zain offer a mix of GPRS, EDGE, 3G and 3.5G or HSDPA.

Step 3
Your phone must be configured to browse the mobile Internet. This can be done manually or automatically, depending on your service provider and your phone model. Typically, you ask the settings of your mobile service provider and want to save it automatically or manually enter it.

Step 4
Once you are through with Step 3, you can navigate your phone using the default browser that comes with or without a third party browser like Opera Mini, Web UC or TeaShark you install.

Step 5
These packet data phones are capable to act as modems, or to your PC or laptop. You can connect your phone wirelessly to your PC or laptop via Bluetooth or a USB cable.

Anyway, some PCs and laptops may already have the necessary drivers. But even if you do not, just install the necessary drivers and make some adjustments and is ready to go online.

The steps above apply to mobile Internet access anywhere in the world, not just subscribers to MTN, Glo and Zain in Nigeria, since you are using is a cell phone.
