Sony Ericsson Phone Hangs

What cell phone or service provider can give me better signal in the basement?

I live in a ground floor apartment in New York, and currently use T-Mobile and Sony Ericsson K660. There is absolutely no sign of there unless I hang it out the window and respond with a bluetooth. Just wondering if I upgrade my phone for qual-band or change a service provider can boost the reception? Thank you!

Technically, 850MHz (AT & T and VZW) will penetrate buildings easier than 1900MHz PCS (which is the T-Mobile and Sprint use). I'm not sure if it would be enough to get good coverage. Another idea would be to start a HotSpot @ Home phone and router.
