Google Android User Guide
As companies embark on the development of mobile applications to meet the needs of the business (whether Android, iPhone, Blackberry, development Windows Mobile, or any other), a series of requirements for a mobile platform emerge. The most important is the following:
1. Desktop integration applications. This includes data synchronization with precision encryption and manageability of data offline. If you need timely access to important data stored on your desktop, including e-mails, events, alerts and customer data, the proper integration is a must.
2. Multi-tasking. Because limited resources of the mobile device, multi-tasking is one of the main ways to increase productivity. (Although it's okay with the development WM, This can be a problem for developers of iPhone or Android).
3. Minimizing the amount of traffic between a server and a mobile device, which contributes to saving time and cost.
4. Friendly interface that allows you to perform tasks required at least operations.
5. The latter, but not the minimum requirements is to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and support costs. Implementation of a mobile platform across the enterprise must be evaluated advance and such factors as cost of support and updates are important as well.
Each platform provider offers its own solutions moving to meet these requirements. Microsoft, for example, is preparing to launch Windows Mobile 7, which potentially could also improve WinMobile experience developing. Google, on the other hand, armed with the next Google Nexus One, is trying to compete with Android, integrating existing Google Apps like Google Docs, Gmail Google Calendar, and others. Apple puts emphasis on characteristics of the business, providing integration with MS Exchange, as well as data encryption, GPS, etc.
However, according to Evans Data survey, development Windows Mobile is still dominant in comparison with the RIM OS, Mac OS and Android development. 50 percent of mobile workers are targeting any WM 6.0 or WM 5.0 platforms. The reasons why the number of companies operating in Windows Mobile is overwhelming, include the following:
- In addition to integration with Outlook, Windows Mobile applications such Microsoft Office Mobile, and Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile and Word Mobile. These applications gained popularity as they are universally implemented in various sectors.
- The TCO of the Windows Mobile platform is 15-24% smaller than the BlackBerry platform RIM over a period of three years. And there's nothing to be surprised, as the native support for Exchange ActiveSync eliminates the need to invest in software, integration and other development efforts WM.
- Win Mobile, and a.NET based platform, gives users the opportunity to gain all the advantages Microsoft Office and other Microsoft-based applications.
Although sometimes be criticized for its clumsy User Interface, Windows Mobile, compared to other mobile platforms, is at best a technology oriented company, which is, of course, determined by the marketing strategy Microsoft, on the development of Windows Mobile. The good thing about it all is the competition that takes all of these platform providers to further improvements and innovations, which in turn helps to better meet the requirements set for the development of business applications.
