Dropping in Europe end of February 2010 is the latest range of Sony Ericsson Xperia, the X10.

Unlike the previous X1, X10 avoids OS and Windows Mobile instead, Android 1.6 (Donut) based. I think it is fair to say that it is almost certain that the device around the most anticipated OS from Google since its inception.

Hardware wise, the X10 is a big hitter – take a look at the specifications on this bad boy:

CPU Packaging same 1Ghz 'Snapdragon' RISC CPU like Google Nexus One is sure to give your phone some poke when it comes to handling Android and multiple applications.

Screen: A huge 4-inch capacitive touch screen displaying WVGA resolution of 480 x 854. No multitouch, unfortunately.

Camera: Not less than 8.1 megapixels of snapping goodness, autofocus, geotagging support and face recognition (more on that later).

E-mail: In addition to the usual support for POP3, SE has kept an eye on its reputation for providing telephones good business and has included Microsoft Exchange support out of the box.

The rest:

  • A-GPS Support
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • slot microSD card.
  • microUSB connector
  • Bluetooth stereo
  • 1500mAh

Size wise, the X10 is not a small cell, but 119 x 63 x 13mm and weighing 135g, compares favorably with the likes of the iPhone and Blackberry offers.

User Experience

If there's one thing that Sony Ericsson like your snazzy interfaces, and the X10 is no exception. While it is true powered by Android, a familiar interface is hidden behind SE's own interface that they call Nexus UX – User Xperience.

Interface UX puts great emphasis on social networking and communication. The day of contact traditional 'be a name, number and perhaps an email address is missing. In SE X10 included an application called Timescape, and implementation of their contacts are connected to their online services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and all your recent communications (texts, emails, etc.) calls are directly accessible to a "contact".

Also included with the X10 is a powerful media management application called Mediascape, a unique place for your music, videos and photos.

Speaking of photos, the X10 has one more trick up its sleeve. The camera software on the X10 uses algorithms powerful "recognize" faces in the photograph (up to 5 faces in picture). When a person is recognized that are automatically tagged the image, allowing you to quickly find all the photos of you significant other, or the dog!

Of course, you're not limited only to the applications installed the X10 – let's not forget this is an Android Phone – giving you access to thousands of applications on the Android Market.

All in all, it looks a hell of a phone and is certainly one to my wish list – So, Sony Ericsson, if you're reading this, any chance of a late Christmas gift?; o)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be available in Europe from February 28, 2010 and will be available in silver and black.
