The phone and Internet technology to kill the business card? During the last two decades, the promotion of print, certainly has taken a slight turn downward as companies embrace web-based promotion and turn away from pamphlets, business cards, magazine advertisements, and the printed word.

In the 1980s the business card was king. It was absolutely essential for all businessmen and women have a "killer" card. The card was often the key to the successful social and business networks. Over the past 20 years, advances in technology phones have created a situation where people can exchange numbers and information using their mobile phones. It is true that more people own a cell phone of a set of business cards!

So why would a business professional even need business cards? The answer to this is simple. Although I do not believe the card is the status symbol it once was, I would is still an essential tool of business. Even in advanced technological environment of today, it would be foolish to go anywhere without some cards to quickly release potential customers! It saves time. Even if your client has a phone, handing a business card is still a much faster transmission of your information.

However, the new generation 3G technology mobile phone may represent a new threat to the card. Phone users can now download specific "apps" to exchange business information. Phone applications, such as "Bump" allow users to instantly exchange business information by phone "bumping". With applications such as Bump available, the card can survive threat to 3G? I sure will! Application popular as "Swap It" and "Bump" trust anyone you meet the same application loaded on your phone it work. You may be ready to "bump", but unless everyone is also willing to "bump", you will not be able to share your information! Rather than being the death of the card, I believe that the new generation of mobile phone technology will make the card Visiting most popular.

Companies and web technology is currently revolutionizing the way we use and exchange of visual information with applications like "Google Goggles. "Although still in its infancy, Google Goggles allows the phone user to turn the information picture of local works of art, text, etc., in usable data. For example, a person can take a picture of a poster and Glasses Google will read the visual and textual information and produce results based on web on this information. How Google Goggles can distinguish the text in a picture, gives the User the incredible ability to shoot a business card entry and verify that the information of the data directly into your contact list! (Unfortunately, Google Goggles is only available for a trial period in Android handset, but is expected to iPhone and other platforms to launch in early 2010)

Google Goggles will users to photograph a business card, and then convert the text pictured in real text data.

Google Goggles probably will be the worlds most effective scanning and reading technology, but there are already similar apps available. Business Card Reader, for example, is a networking tool amazing. I have used this myself and found it to be very precise in the conversion of photographic images into text data. It's not perfect and I have noticed some errors in reading text, but I predict that as these applications may well give new life to the card.

The card business has remained a business popular networking tool because it is Route 1 marketing – the transfer of your number and business information to another person. It is simple and uncomplicated. That's why it works. Technology companies like Google recognizes the importance of the business card and developed their application to work together with, rather than trying to replace it. The simple fact is that there is still no easy way to exchange business information than a business card! As people carry wallets, then there will always be a place for the card.
