Can I somehow use the service from Verizon and still use the iPhone?

Nope there is no way you can do this, the iPhone is a GSM phone simcards (usa), where Verizon is a CDMA carrier (do not use simcards). They use cell technology are different and not compatible with each other. You can only use the iPhone with another GSM carrier like T-Mobile (if unlocked).
