You may think that Mac users get all the luck with the iPod and be able to write or copy DVDs to your iPod to watch. However, we Windows users (mac'rs stop laughing!) can now do the same thing!
There are some steps to get rip and burn a DVD to an iPod to a Windows User, then I will not go into details about each program that you need, but point you in the right direction.
Warning: It is illegal to copy or burn DVD's you do not have on your iPod.
Get a good Ripper
You will need to get a good DVD ripping program to use. Visit Doom9.net and go to decoding / Ripping tools section. You can download and use DVDFab Decrypter or DVD Decrypter.
Both of these should be fairly self-explanatory or check the help files them.
Convert to AVI
Next, you want to convert your video to AVI format, using a decoding tool. Also on the site Doom9.net, look for the section decoders. There are three boxes to use. I personally like the DVDx 2.2, but you can try them and see what you love.
Convert your AVI to MPEG-4
Now is the final step of recording the DVD to your iPod for Windows users.
You need to visit the site and download the Videora iPod Converter Videora software. This will allow you to convert your AVI file created from the last step and place it the MPEG-4 format that your iPod needs to play correctly.
