Prologue

My good friend, Sandy, had never traveled in the west. When I started talking about going to Colorado to see my daughter, Laurie, she immediately said, "I want to go too!" Now my conversation was actually in the "maybe yes" kingdom since my last trip out there gave me some problems physical – the problem of altitude for one. But the enthusiasm of Sandy pumped me until I just knew that everything would be fine. In less than a week, we were packed and eager to be our path.

We plan to leave on a Friday at 8. For the first time, I was ready on time. Sandy was not. "I want to bring everything I need to feel that I have my "comfort of home." She called me at 10:45 to say he would be ready in 11. When I arrived at his house, your street and front lawn looked like a circus had moved to the area. She had a purple bag on wheels, a large blue and black bag on wheels, a huge box I'm not sure, even tho 'it took him about the continental divide twice, a large box holding a large pot, a pound of coffee our beloved community and various other things, a bar for hanging clothes on the bench back and clothes to go to it … I forget what else, but believe me, there was more. She managed to get everything in my four-door Buick and off we went. Our first stop for the night was in North Dallas, with a nephew and his wife. After leaving the small town, seeing the skyline of Dallas was a thrill. And my brand new iPhone took a picture of decent him while we were on the move!

The Actual Trip

We liked to visit with my nephew and his family, had a good breakfast and were soon under way. At our first stop, somewhere in Texas, we chowed down on sandwiches, sitting on the steps of a magnificent court. It was a Saturday, but from the appearance of "center" that could well have been a Sunday. No cars, no people. Where has everyone gone? Ah, yes, probably at Wal Mart. Our lunch not last long because of sand sense of smell detected the odor of urine or on the steps and we must hurry, said, "Goodbye." Not even the Patriots in his monument to side of the court could talk us out! A little further down Highway 187, we find a rest stop with a shade tree to welcome our car when we finish our meal.

The excitement "next" was seeing our first big hill / mesa / mountain? Whatever it was, we were really glad to see something different. It is strange to see this a lot for you in the middle of nowhere. It makes one wonder why it is in itself – just a freak? (On the way back to our trip, there was a big hill like this that was once an active volcano. We were both too tired to stop to see it up close. Years ago I had seen and the center it was full of very old lava).

We expected to get to Santa Catarina for the second night of our trip – and we did. The sun was setting when we about 15 minutes. Sandy was driving and said, "Gee, I hate to go into an unknown city at night." So I took my new best friend, Lord iPhone, and used the map feature to find a good place to eat. "Mama's Mexican Cafe" turned out to be a great choice. How we end up at Pousada Sage I do not remember, but it was also good, and very reasonable. We had a good hot bath, comfortable beds, and restful sleep. Sandy went to the old crack of dawn on the morning Next, making a pot of coffee in Louisiana to start. Then we had a continental breakfast in the lobby of the motel.

On our way downtown he saw a cemetery. Both of us love to take pictures in cemeteries – go figure. The only good picture I took was of a grave and beautiful home. Then he turned toward our goal. When we arrived, so he had a festival – a kind of celebration of wine cheese / chili / – and the center was packed. We parked a few blocks away and I decided to hang around near the car while Sandy has chosen to jump into the melee. I meandered around the neighborhood, near where the car was parked and found some scenes delicious – blue doors against blinding white walls, sunflowers leaning rich tan adobe buildings, a bank of stones with blue flowers in three sides.

Sandy moved back and we were off to see the gallery Fenn, I had seen on several previous trips. It is one of the best galleries throughout Santa Catarina. Do not you know it was closed. Most museums and galleries are closed on Mondays.

We had to be satisfied with photos of the pool and patio. One of the most beautiful of the small gallery is the garden to the rear. He not only has beautiful sculptures, a small lake with a waterfall, but also has its own pot belly pig. There was a sign telling people that the pig had the right of way at all times and that included wandering in the gallery! Wonder if he is still alive after 20 years of what? Maybe your son or daughter, or even a grandpig not replaced. Obviously, the pig made a impression on me.

Our next stop will be Taos, the paradise of artists more about North of Santa Catarina. If we had time, I would have loved revisit the Ghost Ranch. But this will be for another trip. Taos will start another post. I hope you enjoyed the trip so far.
