Need help to activate iPhone 3G?

I have an iPhone 3G in the morning and I turned it on and connected to iTunes. Some window just appeared that asked me the name iPhone. That's all that happened, he never asked me to activate the iPhone. Now I can make calls on the phone, but I can not use the Internet. I was not connected to iTunes, at that time because I do not have an account. I do not know if that makes a difference. So I made an account later and tried to connect my new iPhone. Displacement and then hit the Rest Settings that work didint try it put it in recovery mode (go to YouTube to do this), then it will appear to connect to a itunnes when first baught it should look something like that that work does not restore your iPhone, then do step 1 again to the Internet to work SURE TO BACK UP BEFORE MATERIAL U RESTORE!
